Cadet Program

The Cadet program is a 16-week paid internship with the Grand Rapids Fire Department and the intent is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by fire fighters.

Fire Cadets will learn and participate in the following duties:

​

• Physical and academic training programs in preparation for future firefighter duties

• Lift, carry, and operate heavy tools and equipment

• Perform routine maintenance on equipment and grounds

• Basic Fireground tasks

• Basic Medical training

Requirements:

​

• Graduation from High School or GED

• 18 years of age or older

• Valid Drivers License
